Perhaps the BeyMAs weren’t enough of a selling point, or perhaps there weren’t enough enticing acts hitting the stage, or perhaps the state of pop music is pretty tepid at the moment: According to Nielsen, the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards averaged 8.3 million viewers for the night, down 18% from the Miley-tastic 2013 show.
