More evidence the world is turning digital: Publishers are reporting that in 2011, e-book versions of novels aimed at adults outsold hardcovers for the first time.
But print isn’t dead. Overall, all print formats — including hardcovers and paperbacks — accounted for $11.1 billion in net revenues last year, compared to $2.1 billion in net revenue for e-books.
Still, e-book revenue more than doubled from 2010. Overall sales revenue for trade publishers (which excludes textbooks and scholarly publishing) was basically flat – up 0.5%.
