Nielsen Music says Black Friday sales for vinyl were the second highest ever since they started recording record sales in 1991. More than 259,000 pieces of vinyl were sold nationwide, according to the organization.
“It’s been really good, really busy,” said Maria Armstrong who works Lost and Found Records in North Knoxville. She echoes those numbers for the holiday shopping season, so far.
“A lot of people want the actual copy of something,” Armstrong added. “There’s a connection — having a copy of something you can read the liner notes and see artwork, and see who played on the record and that sort of thing.”
Numbers show more than 7.6 million records were sold so far in 2014, a record in itself compared to last year’s 6.1 million.
