ABC notched its highest-rated night of entertainment programming this summer on Tuesday thanks to its “CMA Music Festival” special, which took a bite out of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent,” though the competition series remained the No. 1 program.
According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, “CMA Music Festival: Country’s Night to Rock” averaged a 1.8 rating/5 share in adults 18-49 and 7.2 million viewers overall from 8 to 11 p.m. — down 10% in the demo and a little more in total viewers from last year (2.0 in 18-49, 8.3 million viewers overall) when it aired on Monday and did not have to face summer’s No. 1 program, “America’s Got Talent.”
