Country music pioneer Johnny Cash, Presley’s onetime recording partner in the 1950s, died Sept. 12, 2003. His album sales in the U.S. since then are now approaching the 19 million mark, according to Nielsen SoundScan. By comparison, Cash’s U.S. album sales between 1991 and his death in 2003 totaled 7 million.
