Unit sales of print books rose 9% in the week ended July 20, 2014, compared to the similar week last year, at outlets that report to Nielsen BookScan. For the second consecutive week, sales through the retail & club channel rose 9%; retail & club is up 2% for the year-to-date. In a rare event this year, all four major print book categories posted a sales increase in week 29—even adult fiction. Units in adult fiction rose 1%, driven by three strong debuts: The Book of Life by Deborah Harkness was the top-selling hardcover adult fiction title in the week, selling over 51,000 copies, while another new hardcover, Daniel Silva’s The Heist, came in second, with over 44,000 units sold in its first week.
