US digital music sales tumble in Q1

US digital record sales fell dramatically in the first quarter of 2013 – with track sales down 12.5% year-on-year and digital album sales falling 14.2%.

That’s according to Nielsen Soundscan figures via Billboard, which also show that combined ‘interactive’ music and video streams totaled 34.28 billion in Q1 2014 – a growth of 25.8% on Q1 2013’s 25.44 billion streams.

Digital track sales fell to 312 million units from 356.5 million units, while digital album sales declined to 27.8 million from 32.4 million.
