Why has none of 2014’s music gone platinum?

Spotify and other music streaming services. These started counting towards the charts in July this year, but 100 plays of a song count as just one single sold.

This seems like a higher criteria than someone just buying a single disc – does the whole album have to be played 100 times to count as a sale? In addition, this only came into effect halfway through the year.

A lot of people use streaming services now – the popularity of music streaming has skyrocketed from 100 million to 200 million streams a week since 2013.
