WITH FIVE DEBUTS IN the top ten, overall album sales are up 1% over last week but down 7% over the same week last year. Year-to-date album sales remain down 7% over 2013. Physical CD sales are down 1% over last week, down 5% over the same week last year and down 7% year-to-date over 2013. Digital album sales are up 4% over last week, down 11% over the same week last year and down 8% year-to-date over 2013. Digital track sales are up 1% over last week, down 18% over the same week last year and down 13% year-to-date over 2013. Track-equivalent album sales are up 1% over last week and down 8.9% over the same period in 2013.
Miranda Lambert’s “Platinum” debuts at number one on the Top Albums chart with 9,300 units sold, two times greater than her previous best one week sales total. Her last album, “Four The Record,” debuted and peaked at No. 12 in 2011. It is the second album from a Country artist to reach the top this year, following Eric Church’s “The Outsiders,” and it is the first album from a Country female artist to reach No. 1 since Taylor Swift’s “Red” in 2012.
