WITH SIX ALBUMS DEBUTING in the top ten, overall album sales are up 2% over last week, but down 1% over the same week last year. Year-to-date sales remain down 7% over the same period in 2013. Physical CD sales are down 5% over last week, down 1% over the same week last year and down 7% year-to-date over 2013. Digital album sales are up 14% over last week, down 2% over the same week last year and down 8% year-to-date over 2013. Digital track sales are down 1% over last week, down 19% over the same week last year and down 13% year-to-date over 2013. Track-equivalent album sales are up 1.2% over last week and down 8.8% year-to-date over 2013.
Lana Del Rey’s “Ultraviolence” debuts at number one on the Top Albums chart with 21,000 units sold. It is her first No. 1 album and third straight top ten release. It is also her biggest one week sales total to date, doubling her previous high total, reached with her first full-length album, 2012’s “Born To Die,” which peaked at No. 3.
“In The Lonely Hour,” the debut album from Sam Smith, enters at No. 2 with 14,000 units sold. The album features “Stay With Me,” which hit No. 1 last week on the Digital Songs chart.
