“All About That Bass” (Sony), the debut single from Meghan Trainor, jumps 2-1 on the Digital Songs chart and moves 8-4 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100, scoring both Greatest Gainer Airplay and Digital honours for the week. The song picks up a 25% increase in downloads to 20,000, the highest weekly total for a song since Sam Smith sold 21,000 downloads in the last week of June. The single also debuts on the Hot 100 Airplay chart at No. 40 with a 94% audience increase.
The soundtrack for the film “Guardians Of The Galaxy” (Universal) remains at number one on the Top Albums chart for the second straight week, with 6,500 units sold, down 11% over last week. It is only the sixth album in 2014 to spent multiple weeks at No. 1, following Beyonce, “2014 Grammy Nominees,” the “Frozen” soundtrack, Serge Fiori and Ed Sheeran.
