With six debuts in the top ten, overall album sales are up 3% over last week, but down 11% over the same week last year. Year-to-date sales are down 6% over the same period in 2013. Physical CD sales are down 1% over last week, down 13% over the same week last year and down 5% year-to-date over 2013. Digital album sales are up 8% over last week, down 9% over the same week last year and down 7% year-to-date over 2013. Digital track sales are down 3% over last week, down 9% over the same week last year and down 13% year-to-date over 2013. Track-equivalent album sales are up 1.3% over last week and down 7.8% year-to-date over 2013.
Leonard Cohen’s “Popular Problems” debuts at number one on the Top Albums chart with 20,000 units sold. It is his second chart-topper in the SoundScan era and his second straight, following 2012’s “Old Ideas.”
Alt-J’s “This Is All Yours” debuts at No. 2 with 14,000 units sold, their highest chart peak and one week sales total to date. They reached No. 30 in March 2013 when their debut album, “An Awesome Wave,” sold 1,800 copies.
