With six new entries in the top ten, overall album sales are up less than 1% over last week and up 1% over the same week last year. Year-to-date album sales are down 5% over the same period in 2013. Physical CD sales are up 7% over last week, down 1% over the same week last year and down 5% year-to-date over last year. Digital album sales are down 8% over last week, up 3% over the same week last year and down 6% year-to-date over 2013. Digital track sales are down 1% over last week, down 18% over the same week last year and down 13% year-to-date over the same period in 2013. Track-equivalent album sales are down 0.2% over last week and down 7.5% year-to-date over the same period in 2013.
Slipknot’s first studio release in six years, “5: The Gray Chapter,” debuts at number one on the Top Albums chart with 15,000 units sold. It is their third chart-topping album and second straight, following 2008’s “All Hope Is Gone.”
Neil Diamond’s “Melody Road” debuts at No. 3 with 6,600 units sold. It surpasses the No. 26 peak of his last studio album, 2010’s covers album “Dreams,” and matches his highest chart peak in the SoundScan era with 2008’s “Home Before Dark.”
