With Christmas just two weeks away and with one big new release, overall album sales are up 10% over last week but down 7% over the same week last year. Year-to-date album sales are down 6% over the same period in 2013. Physical CD sales are up 15% over last week, down 13% over the same week last year and down 7% year-to-date over 2013. Digital album sales are up 2% over last week, up 10% over the same week last year and down 5% year-to-date over 2013. Digital track sales are up 1% over last week, down 6% over the same week last year and down 13% year-to-date over 2013. Track-equivalent album sales are up 8.7% over last week and down 7.7% year-to-date over 2013.
AC/DC’s “Rock Or Bust” debuts at number one on the Top Albums chart with 31,000 units sold. It is their third straight chart-topping album and has three times as many first week sales than their last release, the “Iron Man 2” soundtrack, in 2010. 32% of the new album’s sales come from digital. It is their first album to be released simultaneously at physical and digital outlets.
Two other new releases debut in the top 40: Marc Dupre at No. 12 and Wu-Tang Clan at No. 27.
