DESPITE TWO DEBUTS IN the top five, overall album sales are down 2% over last week and down 17% over the same week last year. Year-to-date album sales remain down 7% over the same period in 2013. Physical CD sales are flat over last week, down 16% over the same week last year and down 7% year-to-date over 2013. Digital album sales are down 4% over last week, down 20% over the same week last year and down 8% year-to-date over 2013. Digital track sales are flat over last week, down 18% over the same week last year and down 12% year-to-date over 2013. Track-equivalent album sales are down 1.2% over last week and down 8.9% year-to-date over 2013.
The “Frozen” soundtrack remains at number one on the Top Albums chart with 9,100 units sold, down 32% over last week’s sales high. The album should surpass the 100,000 sales mark next week.
Johnny Cash’s “Out Among The Stars” has the top debut this week, entering at No. 2 with 8,500 units sold. It is the legend’s highest charting album in the SoundScan era, surpassing the No. 4 peak of his last album, 2010’s “American VI: Ain’t No Grave,” which sold 4,600 units in its first week of release.
