WITH FOUR ALBUMS DEBUTING in the top ten, overall album sales are up 8% over last week but down 5% over the same week last year. Year-to-date album sales are down 7% over the same period in 2013. Physical CD sales are up 3% over last week, down 9% over the same week last year and down 7% year-to-date over 2013. Digital album sales are up 16% over last week, down 1% over the same week last year and down 9% year-to-date over 2013. Digital track sales are up 8% over last week, down 6% over the same week last year and down 12% year-to-date over 2013. Track-equivalent album sales are up 8% over last week and down 9% year-to-date over 2013.
The “Frozen” soundtrack remains at number one on the Top Albums chart for the fifth non-consecutive week, with 13,000 units sold, up 59% over last week. It is the second biggest sales week for the album since its release in November 2013.
Pharrell Williams’ “G I R L” jumps 5-2 with 5,000 units sold, up 90% over last week. It is the album’s highest chart position since debuting at No. 2 six weeks ago.
