WITH FIVE ALBUMS DEBUTING in the top ten, overall album sales are up 2% over last week, but down 14% over the same week last year. Year-to-date album sales remain down 16% over the same period in 2013. Physical CD sales are up 9% over last week, down 21% over the same week last year and down 20% year-to-date over 2013. Digital album sales are down 3% over last week, down 8% over the same week last year and down 13% year-to-date over 2013. Digital track sales are down 5% over last week, down 9% over the same week last year and down 12% year-to-date over 2013. Track-equivalent album sales are down 0.1% over last week and down 14.6% year-to-date over 2013.
The “Frozen” soundtrack continues its reign at number one on the Top Albums chart, spending its 13th non-consecutive week at the top, with 106,000 units sold. It is the tenth week since its release that the album has sold at least 100,000 copies.
Lindsey Stirling’s sophomore album “Shatter Me” is the top new entry of the week, landing at No. 2 with 56,000 units sold. Her self-titled 2012 debut peaked at No. 22 in November.
