DESPITE TWO STRONG DEBUTS at the top of the chart, overall album sales are down 2% over last week and down 11% over the same week last year. Year-to-date album sales remain down 16% over the same period in 2013. Physical CD sales are down 6% over last week, down 16% over the same week last year and down 20% year-to-date over 2013.

Digital album sales are up 3% over last week, down 8% over the same week last year and down 13% year-to-date over 2013. Digital track sales are up 2% over last week, down 14% over the same week last year and down 12% year-to-date over 2013. Track-equivalent album sales are down 0.5% over last week and down 14.6% year-to-date over 2013.

The Black Keys score their first number one album as “True Blue” debuts at No. 1 on the Top Albums chart with 164,000 units sold. It surpasses their last album, “El Camino,” which peaked at No. 2 in late 2011.
Michael Jackson’s “Xscape” debuts at No. 2 with 157,000 units sold. It surpasses the No. 3 peak of his last album, “Michael,” in late 2010.
