WITH FOUR ALBUMS DEBUTING in the top ten, overall album sales are up 5% over last week but down 8% over the same week last year. Year-to-date album sales are down 15% over the same period in 2013. Physical CD sales are up 2% over last week, down 12% over the same week last year and down 20% year-to-date over 2013. Digital album sales are up 9% over last week, down 5% over the same week last year and down 12% year-to-date over 2013. Digital track sales are up 5% over last week, down 10% over the same week last year and down 12% year-to-date over 2013. Track-equivalent album sales are up 5.2% over last week and down 14.3% year-to-date over 2013.

Coldplay’s “Ghost Stories” debuts at No. 1 on the Top Albums chart with 383,000 units sold. It is the best one week sales total for any album so far in 2014 and best total since Beyonce’s self-titled album sold 617,000 units in December. It is the band’s fourth straight album to debut and peak at number one.
