DESPITE SIX DEBUTS IN the top ten, and three albums selling over 100,000 units for the first week this year, overall album sales are down 1% over last week and down 17% over the same week last year. Year-to-date album sales remain down 15% over the same period in 2013. Physical CD sales are down 9% over last week, down 23% over the same week last year and down 20% year-to-date over 2013. Digital album sales are up 11% over last week, down 13% over the same week last year and down 12% year-to-date over 2013. Digital track sales are down 3% over last week, down 21% over the same week last year and down 13% year-to-date over 2013. Track-equivalent album sales are down 1.7% over last week and down 14.3% year-to-date over 2013.
Lana Del Rey picks up her first number one album as “Ultraviolence” debuts at No. 1 on the Top Albums chart with 182,000 units sold. It easily surpasses her biggest previous one week sales total, reached with her debut full length album, 2012’s “Born To Die,” which sold 77,000 units in its first week of release, entering at No. 2.
