WITH DEBUTS IN THE top four positions on the Top Albums chart, overall album sales are up 7% over last week, but down 8% over the same week last year. Year-to-date album sales remain down 15% over the same period in 2013. Physical CD sales are up 6% over last week, down 12% over the same week last year and down 19% year-to-date over 2013. Digital album sales are up 9% over last week, down 5% over the same week last year and down 12% year-to-date over 2013. Digital track sales are up less than 1% over last week, down 11% over the same week last year and down 13% year-to-date over 2013. Track-equivalent album sales are up 5.1% over last week and down 14.1% year-to-date over 2013.

Weird Al Yankovic’s “Mandatory Fun” debuts at number one on the Top Albums chart with 104,000 units sold. It is his first chart-topping album in the SoundScan era and the first time that he has surpassed 100,000 units sold in a one week period. It more than doubles the first week sales total of his last album, 2011’s “Alpocalypse,” which entered at No. 9. It is the first comedy album to top the chart in the SoundScan era.
