WITH SIX DEBUTS IN the top ten, overall album sales are up 2% over last week, but down 15% over the same week last year. Year-to-date album sales are down 15% over the same period in 2013. Physical CD sales are up 4% over last week, down 18% over the same week last year and down 19% year-to-date over 2013. Digital album sales are down 1% over last week, down 13% over the same week last year and down 11% year-to-date over 2013. Digital track sales are up 5% over last week, down 10% over the same week last year and down 13% year-to-date over 2013. Track-equivalent album sales are up 2.6% over last week and down 14% year-to-date over 2013.

Two Rock N’ Roll Hall of Famers debut in the top two positions on the Top Albums chart. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ “Hypnotic Eye” comes in at No. 1 with 131,000 units sold, their best first week sales total to date. It is their first chart-topping album in the SoundScan era, surpassing the No. 2 peak of their last release, 2010’s “Mojo.”
