With six new entries in the top ten, overall album sales are up 3% over last week but down 7% over the same week last year. Year-to-date album sales are down 14% over the same period in 2013. Physical CD sales are down 1% over last week, down 9% over the same week last year and down 19% year-to-date over 2013. Digital album sales are up 7% over last week, down 9% over the same week last year and down 11% year-to-date over 2013. Digital track sales are down 7% over last week, down 15% over the same week last year and down 13% year-to-date over 2013. Track-equivalent album sales are down 0.3% over last week and down 13.7% year-to-date over 2013.
Jason Aldean’s “Old Boots, New Dirt” debuts at number one on the Top Albums chart with 278,000 units sold. He is the fourth Country artist to score a No. 1 album in 2014 and second straight, following Blake Shelton. It is the third largest one week sales total so far in 2014, only trailing Coldplay and Eric Church. It is Aldean’s second straight No. 1 album, following 2012’s “Night Train.”
