WITH FOUR DEBUTS IN the top five and every album in the top-20 posting a sales increase over last week, overall album sales are up 23% over last week but down 2% over the same week last year. Year-to-date album sales are down 16% over the same period last year. Physical CD sales are up 18% over last week, down 7% over the same week last year and down 20% year-to-date over 2013. Digital album sales are up 17% over last week, down 1% over the same week last year and down 13% year-to-date over 2013. Digital track sales are up 11% over last week, up 1% over the same week last year and down 13% year-to-date over 2013. Track-equivalent album sales are up 18.6% over last week and down 14.8% year-to-date over 2013.
The “Frozen” soundtrack remains at number one on the Top Albums chart for the 11th non-consecutive week, with 259,000 units sold, up 94% over last week. It is the second biggest one week sales total for any album so far this year and is easily the biggest sales week for the title since its release in November.
August Alsina’s debut full-length album “Testimony” enters at No. 2 with 67,000 units sold, already selling more copies than the release-to-date total of his 2013 debut EP “Downtown: Life Under The Gun.”
